Marsha Huff, President of JASNA, will be presenting Viewing Austen Through Vermeers Camera Obscura.
In his 1816 review of Emma, Sir Walter Scott likened Jane Austens art to that of the Flemish masters. In this illustrated lecture, Marsha Huff pairs paintings by Vermeer with scenes from Austens novels and discusses the comparable manner in which the two artists construct their portraits of female domesticity and convey the interior life of their subjects. The presentation sheds light on the art of both Jane Austen and Vermeer.
The presentation by JASNA President Marsha Huff is sponsored by the Jane Austen Society of North America.
This event will be held at the Ottawa Public Library main branch auditorium at 120 Metcalfe St from 2 until 4pm. Admission is free.
